Iapos;m terrible at updating this thing. Oh yeah, noticed, did you?

So, Iapos;ve been back at uni for a month now and Iapos;m loving it. The course is made up of Marketing, Production Design, Media Industries, and Editorial Processes. I only dislike the first one - and even that is only because itapos;s taught with a bias towards big business rather than Publishing-specific. There are four people on my course including me - Kirstie, the cool ex-law student from Orkney; Calum, the studious ex-journalist from Aberdeen;and Anna, the stand-offish ex-english student from Poland. And me - the only science graduate. Not that it does me much good.

The workload is manageable, though there is a marked difference between under and postgrad - namely in how much youapos;re told about what is expected of you in coursework hand-ins. I also got elected class rep (by virtue of being the only one who wanted the job) so that means I have to attend monthly meetings with important people and put forth any course complaints we have - which is perfect, because I love complaining.

Initial decision re: future career is copy-editing. Freelance gives you plenty of freedom, and variation in projects. Iapos;ll get a better idea of what suits me on placement in April - which reminds me, if anyone has a sofa I can crash on in London, Oxford or Edinburgh, Iapos;d love you forever

Anyway, thatapos;s the last month. The mothership is coming over in a few to drop off my birthday presents for next week. Exciting news.

Iapos;m disappointed by the lack of creativity in most girlsapos; costumes. Kevin got me some wound tattoos. I plan on utilizing those throughout the year. I should "lose" my license just so I can get a new picture with a giant gash on my face.
I always ask my young male clients if I can shave dollar signs into their heads, and they always say no. One of my favourite clients came in today and said she would let me, but I think she was kidding, and I donapos;t think I could actually do it if the time came. I should practice.

Sometimes, it helps to set a deadline.

This can be true when we face unsolved problems, or are struggling with a tough decision.

That does not mean a deadline is written in stone. It means that we are establishing a time frame to help ourselves not feel so helpless and to help bring a solution into focus.

We donapos;t always need to tell people weapos;ve got a deadline. Sometimes, itapos;s better to be silent, or else they may feel we are trying to control them and may rebel against our deadline. Sometimes, it is appropriate to share our deadlines with others.

Deadlines are primarily a tool to help ourselves. They need to be reasonable and appropriate to each individual situation. Used properly, deadlines can be a beneficial tool to help us get through difficult problems and situations without feeling trapped and helpless. Setting a deadline can help move us out of that uncomfortable spot of feeling victimized by a person or a problem we canapos;t solve.
